Mandalas as understandings and other spiritual stuff

September 24, 2010

I recently thanked a blogger for getting me started drawing mandalas. She thanked me for the message and asked if I had any online. Now, I don't have the greatest camera skills, nor are my drawings anything special, but I think if I can blog my mandala journey, maybe someone else will be inspired as I was. Thus, here we are!

My spirituality is a jumble of things I have learned over the years, as befits the daughter of an atheist and an agnostic. I have come to consider myself Quaker, Pagan and Christian, although the combination varies from day to day. When I draw mandalas, I "center down" in the Quaker way, trying to see what Spirit is trying to show me. Unlike in Quaker Meeting, however, I listen for images rather than words. I am not very good at drawing, but I mostly think without words, and I like to see how my soul is feeling by letting my hand do the talking. For me, that is what drawing a mandala is all about.

The above drawing was inspired yesterday by this post on a Quaker Pagan blog.
